When Terry and Monique left the opera to pursue their true passion – ecological farming – their story of community and resilience took center stage. We follow their young family and a diverse group of farmers and scientists as they blend age old traditions with cutting edge science to develop improved methods for growing food ecologically and in a changing climate. A hopeful story and Canadian perspective on a global social movement that regenerates the land, farming and communities to grow a healthier and truly sustainable future for all of us.

Katharina Stieffenhofer

Katharina Stieffenhofer is a Winnipeg documentary filmmaker, with a passion for ecological agriculture, healthy communities and social justice.

Her love of Nature and appreciation of farmers is rooted in her childhood & youth growing up on a mixed family farm on a Rhine island in Germany and expanded when her parents immigrated to Canada to become grain farmers in Southern Manitoba.

Katharina obtained a Fine Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba (1996) and exhibited nationally and internationally during her 16-year visual art practice.
In 2001 she began working in the Manitoba film industry and has worked on ~ 45 films in various capacities in the art department, most notably as Art Director on Guy Maddin’s “My Winnipeg”.

“…And This Is My Garden”, 2010, was her first documentary film about a school gardening project in Northern Manitoba, which empowered the students with the skills to grow their own food sustainably in their own backyards.

“From Seed to Seed”, 2017, her feature-length documentary about the growing momentum of ecological agriculture, follows a group of small and large scale farmers for a season of blending age old traditions with cutting edge science.
